Of the girl child.

Just got the news, a friend of mine delivered a bonny baby girl! *yippee*

As I disconnected the call after speaking to her and her husband, my thoughts went back to yesterday night…

Was at the railway station, returning to Mumbai, had asked dad to drop me and return home because it was raining pretty heavily, and heard this heated conversation between a lady and her husband, as I walked past them on the platform.

Lady: “Mujhe talaq chaiye…”

*not a very auspicious thingy to be speaking about, let alone at 11pm on a railway platform*

Man: “Kyun?”

Lady: “ Jab hamne shaadi ki thi, tabhi mujhe patha tha ki teri pehli shaddi ho gayi hai aur tere che bacche hai… aur phir be mere papa ne tujse shadi kara di, mujhe talaq chaiye, ya uske ghar se nikal ja aur hamare ghar pe aaja….”

Kept walking and the rest of the argument faded away like a bad dream, but the thought returns, what sort of a dad forces his daughter to marry someone who already has 6 kids, and a wife?

On one end of the spectrum, the kid is loved and welcomed. I am invited to the naming ceremony, to a dinner coz the kid is lovely, and on the other end, there is the dad of this girl. *jeez*
