2 and a half months down

2 months down.

Been 2 months and a few days in college and the majority are beginning to settle down to the routine. 20 hour days don’t seem as daunting, and the ingenious minds have developed methods of getting past the profs roving eye. The “was thinking” comment has now been replaced by “just a few minutes sir” and this may be replaced “just a few minutes more sir” in the coming days.

Diro is always on the look out for the “sleeping beauties” and does not spare the rod.

1st round of FCQs are done. Seem to be ok in most papers. I have started the “3 point someone” club for those with just above average grades in college. Speaking of clubs and committees, I have been made a part of the Admissions core committee, and would be responsible for the process that the next batch goes through. Should be a lot of work, a lot of travelling, with absolutely no attendance in the 2nd semester but should also be a lot of learning and a whole lot of FUN.

The website is coming out pretty nicely, and the work in getting the material updated is taking a lot more time than anticipated. The Aug 15th that the diro set seems unattainable.

Another of the deadlines that is probably not attainable is the one on the newspaper research, which the class does not seem to be interested in. May be difficult to do now.

The lappie benchmarks are pending, have not had the time to do much on the lappie but work work and more work ! Word and Excel, the hitherto untouched parts of any computer I use have been made to work overtime, and I plan to get my hands dirty with a bit of corel and photo shop too. GIMP, Paint.net and Inkscape prove to be interesting alternatives that need some attention.

Ajay and I have had fun for the past few days, challenging each other in getting moneys worth on the NOD32 investment. Awesome software for a place where every machine and every pen drive is infected with a plethora of viruses. Any pen drives that need cleaning are welcome!

Freshers party ! fun time .. watched people dance the night away. explained my two left feet and stomp ... was named "Fill_Fancy_Pirate_NameHere" as the no-nonsense guy ! :) surprised !

The past week was weird, woke up on Tuesday to find out that 5 laptops were stolen from the hostel, and the police had been called in. a search of all the rooms ensued, but the lappies are yet to be found. A massive loss to the guys, and a sense of fear (sort of) among the rest of the hostelites. Rooms that remained open throughout the night are now closed and latched. Weird to walk along the corridor at times and find not a single door open where one week ago most door would have remained open till 1 am.

A few birthdays were celebrated last month, mine was real special. Luckily it fell on a Wednesday so was free, and went home and to ras place … but the guys had a cake and a lot of bumps at midnight. Was real fun… went back to the Loyola days, though the birthday bumps were a tad less painful here.-

Signing off on this note … placements for summer projects are scheduled to start, admissions work is gearing up, website coming through .. all in all a productive month and half.
